Design of a double-gap Hughes-type coupled-cavity for a Ka-band Extended Interaction Klystron

In this paper, the design of a Ka-band Extended-Interaction Klystron (EIK) working at 2$\pi$ mode. The interaction structure is a three-gap Hughes-type coupled-cavity. Based on the results obtained with the 3D model developed by using CST, “cold electrical parameters” have been calculated, necessary to measure the interaction with the electron beam. The structure stability and the synchronization with the electron beam are analyzed The large-signal analysis is performed by 1D software AJDISK. Under the beam voltage and current of 19.55 kV and 0.95 A, respectively, an RF output power value of 3.86 kW and a bandwidth gain value of 37. 06 dB have been obtained

Optimum Design and Performance of an Electron Gun for a Ka-Band TWT

This paper deals with optimum design and development of a thermionic electron gun to meet specified beam requirements within defined electric and geometric constraints for a Ka -band traveling wave tube (TWT) for space applications. The electron gun design is based on the Pierce method and carried out according to the iterative process indicated by Vaughan. The design of a periodic permanent magnet (PPM) beam focusing system for the stability of the beam is also required. A sensitivity analysis, by varying electric parameters and geometric parameters, is presented and taken into account as a fundamental role to the aim of optimizing the design of the Pierce gun. Design of a 1 kW output power Folded Waveguide TWT operating in ka-band

A Ka-band Serpentine Folded Waveguide Travelling Wave Tube (TWT) has been designed. The imposed design parameters values in terms of high power, high load, wide bandwidth, low weight, along with a structure manufactured with planar technique or by means of a micro milling process, have been obtained. Small signal simulations have been carried out with an in-house software for interaction impedance evaluation. The commercial electromagnetic simulation code CST Suite has been used for dispersion diagram prediction.
